Asymmetry
Irregularity
Opacity
Consistency
Distortion
Randomness
Sharpness

These two artworks successful present their concepts and values to audiences through numerous techniques. The first artwork employs randomness and unrestricted as its main techniques.  The second artwork relied on understatement and repetition the same basic shape as its main techniques. Both artworks are interesting and special.

On the first image, the artist employs irregularity techniques through using free lines to construct the basic shape of a human face. All of lines have different density, thickness and colors. It empowers the figure in the image to movement effects such as swinging of hairs. The designer also employs transparency technique to presents 3-D space effects with lines and colors. The line showed slight variations in thickness and the color also change on the intensity to create depths and thickness that separate positive object, the human face, from the negative background. Finally, the designer demonstrates techniques of both complexity and randomness through the neck area of the main character. The neck is computed without restriction since that are no consist direction, order and style. It is freedom, boldness and flexible. The transparencies of the lines present a feeling that is the figure immersed in illusion, unrealistic. I would adopt techniques of both free lines and transparency in order to produce better artworks in the future. These visual techniques enable the artwork to present a feeling of unlimited possibilities and freedoms.

The second artwork presents an extremely special cloth. The artist demonstrates a different view point for cloth that people do not recognize before. He/she employs techniques of both consistency and sharpness to empower the uncomfortable feeling. The equal amounts of spaces between folds create a sense of consistency.  The larger folds within areas such as shoulder create a sense of sharpness. The cloth is constructed by different triangles and each triangle presents sharpness, consistency and understatement. These techniques enable the artwork to present 3-D impression. However, the triangle is randomly arranged, which presents a reality feeling to the artwork. These visual techniques can be adopted on the industrial design work such as the furniture design.

contrast - week 11

http://rninomiya.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/uad17.jpg?w=450&h=598

This is a successful advertisement that emphasis the power behind the soccer ball. The designer present the existents of the soccer ball through making it have similar scale as the building. The artist employs such technique to counteract against the human perceptual system. The idea that a soccer ball has similar size as a building, and it can cause impact on building is contradicted to believe that audience has in their perceptual system. These contradictions of both realities and believes flashes out the existence of the soccer ball. It enables the artwork to catch attention from audiences through the first sight since people will always be attracted by unfamiliar objects. The main concept behind the image is to emphasis impossible things within the normal world through the enormous soccer ball and its impact. These techniques enable the artist to present an artwork that successful present its concept to audiences through the first glance. The techniques of contrast size and color on the poster may also benefit me in my future artwork.

The poster makes an unsuccessful attempt to present its main concept to its audience. The scale of positive characters is not large enough. This mistakes result audiences to have difficult time to distinguish the characters from the complex background. Also, the negative background of character has enormous details. This mistake result confusions within audiences on whatever these details belong to the background or to the characters, especially the arm of the woman who is standing and the man who stands on her left side. Finally, this poster is presented by black, blackish green and white tones, which are used throughout most of the image. However, the most interesting area of this poster is the bottom black angular figures, which do not share a similar color tones. Its scale is the largest out of all other positive characters. The contrast between red blood and black body creates attracts attention from audiences. But the artist fail to make clearly point on whatever the figure is negative background or positive background. These confusions make it difficult for audiences to understand the main concept behind the artwork. These mistakes make the artwork has difficult time to communicate with audiences to make them understand its main concepts.

Motion in Graphic Design- Week 10

http://photo.pchome.com.tw/ljmzen/124244088370

This is a successful demonstration of Optical Art. Audiences will identify strong waves perception on this flat image. They will feel numerous waves that travels continuously between the left bottom corner of the image to the right top corner of the image. The author employs both the visual illusion and persistence of vision in order to carry out such effect. The visual illusion is used to create a illusion effect because of human perception that enable audiences to see the “imaginary wave movement”. Even though that there are no real wave movement on the image, the carefully arranges of colors and patterns produce the illusion of continuous waves that travel across the image. The designer also arrange colors and patterns to produce a two triangles that points to both the left bottom corner as well as the top right corner to have a directional movement. This result waves to travel continuously straight within these two points.

This is an successful example that demonstrate the movement of energy. Although the woman stands on the flat floor, it seems that she sinks into the whirlpool. The artist employs the thickness of lines to express the energy within the movement. The season that cause the woman to sink into the whirlpool is the thickness of line. The outer lines of the whirlpool are thinner. The inner lines of the whirlpool are much thinker and have smaller distance between each other.  This technique cause the visual illusion within the audiences. The flow of energy creates a movement within the whirlpool that makes it to appear to continue to flowing into the center circle that have unpredictable depth. The energy become larger as lines become busy and complex, The energy is largest at the bottom center since it have the thickset lines out of the entire whirlpool. These techniques enable the artist to produce a visual illusion effect that enables the audiences to visualize the circular movement of the whirlpool within a flat image artwork.
