Representational,Symbolic,Abstract - week 15

I want to be a designer for the advertised poster in the future. It enables me to participate in connecting audiences with the concept in my works. This poster is a successful artwork that combines the layers of representation, abstract and symbolic.
For the representational layer, the artist present the form of the music instrument horn, people can easily recognize the main shape similarities with a horn because of the personal experience. The poster tries to communicate to public the beach music festival. The shape of horn is the first information that poster is used to emphasize music festival because of its popularity within music concerts.  The form of horn has great impact on audience since audience can connect the horn with the musical festival during the first moment. The abstract layer simplifies the horn as well as the sea animals to simple shape in order to emphasize their existence through the first sight. The symbolic layer emphasizes the location of the concert, beach, through the sea animals such as fish and squid.
For abstract layer, the artist uses many different daubs on the negative background to show that the music show would surround the mind and the body of every audience. This poster also outlines the shape of benthos. Artist use these beautiful benthos shape without detail to enforce audiences to accept their existence. The simple outlines enforce audience to use their experiences and knowledge to visualize them within their mind. These arrangements not only connect the music festival with the beach location. It will also emphasize that the music festival will surround the body and the mind of people as the way that ocean cover these benthos. These benthos are adopted within the symbolize layers to represent the activity within the ocean. The bent hoses are arranged into the shape of the horn within the representation layers to represent the musical festival.
For symbolic, the color blue Symbol Sea and oceans. The artist adopts blue tone and white tone on the poster to symbolize the sky and the sea. The artist also uses sea animals to symbolize the sea and its activity. Some colors of the benthos on the horn are washout. These effects are used to symbolize the sea water. The poster presents the music festival more nature and unlimited. The sea animals are used as part of the horn in the representation layer to represent the music festival on the beach. The shapes of the sea animals are used in the abstract layer to connect the beauty of the music sounds with the beauty of activities within the sea.
Those three layers relate to each other as well as support each other. They cannot be separated since the remaining parts can never be a complete work. The artist uses these techniques to successfully connect audiences with the concepts behind the artwork.

Designer employees the physical form of human lip and its color to build up the shape of the sofa. People can easily recognize its similarities with human lip through both the sofa and the human lip have similar abstract outlines.  The artist enforced audiences to recognize the sofa artwork by building up connection between the sofa and human experiences of lip. People can lean lightly against on the top of the lips on this sofa and set on the bottom of the lips. This design farther emphasized the physical similarities between the human lip and this work. This enforced audiences to reference their knowledges that human lip will usually has thick and bigger bottom part with thin and smaller top parts. The artist successfully employed these techniques to connect audiences with this artwork through first sight.

Symbolic

People can recognize the sign as a symbolize to money and value due to its connections currency. The money symbol is used across countries due to its international understandings. People reference it as a symbol since it is imprinted on currencies, such as the US dollar bill.   Numerous artists and designers also implant this symbol to cartoon artworks, banks, valuable designs, in order to emphasis their importances in values and wealth. This symbol now becomes common knowledge with value, and currency.

Abstract

These washing instruction signs on cloth use abstraction technique to simplify complex images into their simplest form. The artist used simple but essential outlines and shapes to construct the complex shapes, such as iron. The simplicity of these shapes enable audience to recognize their concept through first glance. Audiences can employ these essential outlines and shapes to visualize the actual objects, such as the triangle shape can connect with the iron and the wave shape represents the water. The artist use simplified abstract shapes to enforce audiences to understand the concept behind these shapes through first glance.

Asymmetry
Irregularity
Opacity
Consistency
Distortion
Randomness
Sharpness

These two artworks successful present their concepts and values to audiences through numerous techniques. The first artwork employs randomness and unrestricted as its main techniques.  The second artwork relied on understatement and repetition the same basic shape as its main techniques. Both artworks are interesting and special.

On the first image, the artist employs irregularity techniques through using free lines to construct the basic shape of a human face. All of lines have different density, thickness and colors. It empowers the figure in the image to movement effects such as swinging of hairs. The designer also employs transparency technique to presents 3-D space effects with lines and colors. The line showed slight variations in thickness and the color also change on the intensity to create depths and thickness that separate positive object, the human face, from the negative background. Finally, the designer demonstrates techniques of both complexity and randomness through the neck area of the main character. The neck is computed without restriction since that are no consist direction, order and style. It is freedom, boldness and flexible. The transparencies of the lines present a feeling that is the figure immersed in illusion, unrealistic. I would adopt techniques of both free lines and transparency in order to produce better artworks in the future. These visual techniques enable the artwork to present a feeling of unlimited possibilities and freedoms.

The second artwork presents an extremely special cloth. The artist demonstrates a different view point for cloth that people do not recognize before. He/she employs techniques of both consistency and sharpness to empower the uncomfortable feeling. The equal amounts of spaces between folds create a sense of consistency.  The larger folds within areas such as shoulder create a sense of sharpness. The cloth is constructed by different triangles and each triangle presents sharpness, consistency and understatement. These techniques enable the artwork to present 3-D impression. However, the triangle is randomly arranged, which presents a reality feeling to the artwork. These visual techniques can be adopted on the industrial design work such as the furniture design.

contrast - week 11

http://rninomiya.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/uad17.jpg?w=450&h=598

This is a successful advertisement that emphasis the power behind the soccer ball. The designer present the existents of the soccer ball through making it have similar scale as the building. The artist employs such technique to counteract against the human perceptual system. The idea that a soccer ball has similar size as a building, and it can cause impact on building is contradicted to believe that audience has in their perceptual system. These contradictions of both realities and believes flashes out the existence of the soccer ball. It enables the artwork to catch attention from audiences through the first sight since people will always be attracted by unfamiliar objects. The main concept behind the image is to emphasis impossible things within the normal world through the enormous soccer ball and its impact. These techniques enable the artist to present an artwork that successful present its concept to audiences through the first glance. The techniques of contrast size and color on the poster may also benefit me in my future artwork.

The poster makes an unsuccessful attempt to present its main concept to its audience. The scale of positive characters is not large enough. This mistakes result audiences to have difficult time to distinguish the characters from the complex background. Also, the negative background of character has enormous details. This mistake result confusions within audiences on whatever these details belong to the background or to the characters, especially the arm of the woman who is standing and the man who stands on her left side. Finally, this poster is presented by black, blackish green and white tones, which are used throughout most of the image. However, the most interesting area of this poster is the bottom black angular figures, which do not share a similar color tones. Its scale is the largest out of all other positive characters. The contrast between red blood and black body creates attracts attention from audiences. But the artist fail to make clearly point on whatever the figure is negative background or positive background. These confusions make it difficult for audiences to understand the main concept behind the artwork. These mistakes make the artwork has difficult time to communicate with audiences to make them understand its main concepts.

Motion in Graphic Design- Week 10

http://photo.pchome.com.tw/ljmzen/124244088370

This is a successful demonstration of Optical Art. Audiences will identify strong waves perception on this flat image. They will feel numerous waves that travels continuously between the left bottom corner of the image to the right top corner of the image. The author employs both the visual illusion and persistence of vision in order to carry out such effect. The visual illusion is used to create a illusion effect because of human perception that enable audiences to see the “imaginary wave movement”. Even though that there are no real wave movement on the image, the carefully arranges of colors and patterns produce the illusion of continuous waves that travel across the image. The designer also arrange colors and patterns to produce a two triangles that points to both the left bottom corner as well as the top right corner to have a directional movement. This result waves to travel continuously straight within these two points.

This is an successful example that demonstrate the movement of energy. Although the woman stands on the flat floor, it seems that she sinks into the whirlpool. The artist employs the thickness of lines to express the energy within the movement. The season that cause the woman to sink into the whirlpool is the thickness of line. The outer lines of the whirlpool are thinner. The inner lines of the whirlpool are much thinker and have smaller distance between each other.  This technique cause the visual illusion within the audiences. The flow of energy creates a movement within the whirlpool that makes it to appear to continue to flowing into the center circle that have unpredictable depth. The energy become larger as lines become busy and complex, The energy is largest at the bottom center since it have the thickset lines out of the entire whirlpool. These techniques enable the artist to produce a visual illusion effect that enables the audiences to visualize the circular movement of the whirlpool within a flat image artwork.

Depth perception -Week 9

http://www.food2.com/images/blogposts/Hulk.jpg
This is a successful demonstration of depth/size cue poster. The artist emphasizes the enormous size of the main character, Hulk, through comparing him with the objects that we are familiar such as building and vehicles. The overlapping of the main character over the white buildings and vehicle creates a relative scale between the Hulk and the buildings. Since Hulk is larger than both the buildings and the vehicle, the enormous size of Hulk become more easily for the audience to understand and to believe in. The artist farther emphasizes the strength of the main character through placing it before all other objects to create the atmosphere that the main character is standing in front of  audiences. The details within the Hulk, such as textures, farther emphasis his giantess and closeness to the audiences. The blur details of farther objects, such as buildings and ships also create the feeling of a three dimensional world instead of flat image that make the overall artwork more interesting and realistic.  There is also an overlapping area on the left arm of Hulk arm and the white houses, which can prove that Hulk is closer to the audiences than these white houses. The helicopter is another scales to farther emphasis the three dimensional space. The scale between the larger helicopter and the smaller helicopters create a feeling of depth as the size of the helicopters become smaller as they are farther away. The closer one would be larger than the ones that are farther away in order to create the unlimited extensions of depth to make the artwork become more realistic and believable.

tone and color-week 8

This artwork represents a colorful poster on the majority part of this image. There are lots of tonal information within this poster. The foliage part on the tree is cold tone. The artist uses different tones of the green color and yellow color to represent the foliage.  The trunk of the tree is illustrated through combining of different tones of the color brown and lines. The different tones of the yellow visualizes the reflection lights of the trunk, while the lines provide unique textures to different part of the trunk. The artists employees warm tones such as orange color and brown color to incorporate words with the trunk above them. The warn tone of orange color and white color at the bottom of the image also establishes a sense of warm and fresh mood. Fresh and bright color symbolizes the vitality of the designer. The artist emphasis the bright tones in order to bring the foliage out of the image. However, the shadow is also an important tone on this image. It enables the image to be seen as a three dimensional images instead of dull and normal flat image. The artist employees line element and dot element to represent this image. The most interesting part in this picture is that dots are made by lines.

There are enormous color usages within this image.  The artist uses enormous saturation color to represent the fresh tree. The designer carefully chooses color usages to incorporate objects as one central concept while arrange them to form strong contrast with each other. One of examples is that the artist places yellow trunks within the large green brushes to emphasis their existence. It also enables the liveness within the trees due to the numerous extensions of the trunks. The color brown and the color green are highly contrast at the first glance in order to establish the feeling of brush and trunk. However, due to their closeness within the color table, these colors also create a unite feeling within the entire foliage.

The shapes of foliage is very interesting especially the shapes within the brushes. The brush shapes create an feeling of liveness due to extensions of the brushes from the trunk.
